A backflow devise is used to protect portable water supplies from contaminated or pollution due to backflow. In water supply systems, water is normally maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower etc.

Backflow Prevention devises reduce the risk of contaminating our water supply. ALL connections to our water mains must have a suitable backflow containment.

Licensed plumbers must access each site to work out its specific backflow containment needs.

If you’ve determined the sites hazard rating as low, our 20 mm and 25 mm water meters already have a simple backflow prevention devise in them. If the property’s water meter is larger than 25mm, you will need a separate backflow devise.

You must advise the property owner of the backflow requirements and install a backflow prevention devise appropriate to the property hazard rating. The owner must also be made aware if the backflow devise requires tasting each year.

Once we test your backflow prevention devise the results are submitted to Sydney Water instantly or within 24 hours. Sydney water takes a number of hours to process the report. All tests lodged are given a receipt number that can be referenced with Sydney Water.
The hazard rating of the site’s processes determines which type of devise you need to install. If the hazard rating varies due to multiple processes, you must apply the highest hazard rating.

BACKFLOW TYPES
Reduce Pressure Zone Devise (Hazard Rating – High)
This devise has two independant action, non-return valves that are force-loaded to the closed position. A relief valve is positioned between the non-return valves and is arranged to be force loaded to open to atmosphere.

We lodge the backflow test online with Sydney Water. Once lodged with a copy of the test results along with a receipt number from Sydney water.
Only licensed plumbers with backflow prevention accreditation issued by a registered training organisation can inspect, register and test backflow devises.
